Exit 135. I'm almost there, then BRAKE. I left my house this morning for an interview. I was on the parkway and coasting with ease southbound down the never-ending road. I hear on my radio, dial set at 880 am, that there is a 2-car accident around exit 135 in Clark, backed up for a mile and a half, with only one lane open. Well, it sounds not good, but it's only backed up a little. Well, when I got to milepost 137, a sea of cars formed a wall to my interview, which was set to begin in Brick Township at 10:45 am. It is 9:10 am. Ok, there's still plenty of time. As I sit motionless in my car for a half hour, I try tuning in my radio to the traffic report, only there's a war briefing on every station, including sports stations. So I try my hand at the FM stations, who only mention that there are 40 minute delays going into the Lincoln Tunnel and seem to think this Garden State Parkway does not exist. I keep the radio on, hoping to hear something soon. At about 9:40, they break away from the war briefing to tell me, there's a 10 mile backup on the Garden State Parkway South from 131 to 141. Also, there's another accident at milepost 142, and another at the Raritan toll plaza. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh! Approximately 18 minutes later, the parking lot begins to see movement and we're off, but cautiously. As we trudge along, I see lines of cars pulled over from overheating, hoping mine will not follow suit. Then, my lane decides to stop. Only my lane. I notice a cop car stopped in my lane up ahead, so the folk in front of me pull into the right or left lane to pass. As I finally get into the left lane, the cop floors it and off he goes. Why was he stopped? Did he drop his donut? Does he have narcolepsy? Was he trying to make another accident? We may never know.
Well, I get to exit 112 and notice it's 10:20. I will probably be late. I call and tell them the story and they are quite understanding. I ended up getting there at 10:55, only 10 minutes late after all that. The interview consisted of the assistant superintendent and 2 principals. I felt like a monkey in the zoo. Three people staring intently at me. When do I get to throw my dookie at them? After deflecting questions, the assistant superintendent tells me I did well, and wants me to fill out paperwork to sub, so if I were to get hired, I could start immediately. I fill out papers and this takes another 25 minutes. It is now 12:15. The assistant superintendent asks if I have to be anywhere. Other than Aruba, I say no. She wants me to visit a school to talk to a teacher. I say ok, because that is a good sign. I get directions to the school and end up waiting for 10 minutes. The principal comes out and hey, she decides to fire 20 questions at me. After that fiasco, I ask for direction to GSP North. Get me outta here. It's after 1 and I am famished. The principal doesn't know how to get there, neither does the secretary. Another teacher tells me, but gives me the wrong directions, and I notice I am headed south. I pull a U-turn, and finally see signs for the parkway. I get home at 2:30. Monday, great day!
Oh yes, I posted my philosophy final. If you feel like thinking read it. I actually think this was one of my finals I actually deserved the "A". Peace out.
